Clide

A command-line tool for making shell requests in plain language.

Clide takes a request, runs shell operations, reads the results, and exits. It runs in the current directory, inside your existing terminal.

cm "where is parse_config used?"
cm "find what's using port 8080"
cm "replace localhost:3000 with localhost:8080 in src"

Intent

Handle small searches and edits without opening a separate workspace. A request can involve several operations when the first result leaves work to do.

Behavior

Recognized read-only commands can run automatically. File changes require approval. For text edits, Clide shows a diff and checks that the original text still matches before applying it.

Each request has a bounded execution loop. There is no persistent conversation or session database.

Limits

Clide uses a model to choose operations. It does not include a language server or guarantee that a rename finds every reference. Ambiguous requests and missing context can prevent it from completing the work.

Linux and macOS are supported by the implementation. The included smoke checks run on Linux.

Setup

From a local checkout, with Rust installed:

cargo install --path . --locked

Set OPENAI_API_KEY in the environment before running cm.
